Beats Headphones Banned from World Cup

The US national team has blue ones. Neymar – green, Wayne Rooney white. The headphones are ubiquitous around the stadium – until today.

Due to licensing restrictions, FIFA will not allow the use of the headphones in any World Cup stadiums or media events. FIFA has a licensing deal with Sony Electronics.

“When fans see World Cup athletes wearing Beats in their downtime, by choice, it has as much impact as seeing them lace their Adidas (boots) or sip a sponsored beverage,” said strategist Ellen Petry Leanse, a former Apple and Google executive.

“Maybe more, actually – Beats isn’t a sponsor, so the message is more authentic and credible.”

Before the World Cup aired, Beats created a commercial entitled “The Game Before the Game” featuring Robin Van Persie, Mexico’s “Chicharito” Hernandez, Neymar and many others.
