Cut from Germany – Max Kruse Wins at the World Series of Poker

Max Kruse was one of the Germans top scorers in the Bundesliga side, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and was expecting to be including on the 23 man German National team roster.

When Germany manager Joachim Low’s announced his final squad for the 2014 World Cup, the 26-year old striker’s name was omitted and he suddenly had a lot of free time in the month of June.

So what does Max do? He heads to Las Vegas, enters the World Series of Poker, and takes home $36,494:

“And how’s this for a needle: The footballer learned how to play 2-7 draw lowball during a 30-minute crash course from friend George Danzer while watching Germany play against Portugal last week.

“We were getting ready for the 2-7 event and Max liked the game so we just gave him a few hints,” Danzer told PokerNews’ Frank Op de Woerd on Tuesday. “He seems to have learned really fast!”
