Suarez Bites Italy Defender Chiellini

For the third time in just four years, Luis Suarez has bitten an opposing player. Late in the second half, with Italy already down to 10 men, you can clearly see Suarez lean into the back of defender Chiellini, and Chiellini immediately fall to the ground and clutching his shoulder. After Chiellini gets up and pulls his shirt back, you can see a mark and broken skin. But don’t blame the ref – he didn’t see the incident so was powerless to do anything about it. See for yourself:

And that is why I am not a Luis Suarez fan. Too often he is irresponsible, selfish and a cheat. He doesn’t think about his country, his team, his kids and all the new fans watching World Cup for the first time.

It was just a year ago when he threatened to leave England because of the “media” as he was serving a 10 match ban for biting Chelsea defender Ivanovic. When he cried at the end of the England game, he spoke about his critics and media, as though he was the innocent victim.

“I want to change the bad boy image that has stuck for a bit because I don’t think I am at all how I have been portrayed. I would like to change because it’s awful to hear and read what is said of you. On the field, sometimes passion overwhelms you and you do things you regret afterward.

– Luis Suarez to Grant Wahl in Sports Illustrated (June)

Compare with his earlier two biting incidents:

And now we are going to have to listen to him vilify the media again about how he is unfairly targeted.

I say good riddance. Give him 10 matches, 15 matches, 20 matches, I don’t care. I just hope the corrupt FIFA can step up and do the right thing.

He should be out of the rest of the World Cup.

I cannot believe that the referee ignored Chiellini’s protests….had the referee taken a look at Chiellini’s shoulder, Suarez would have been shown the red card, so I feel that the referee should also be investigated and asked to explain why he did nothing about it……
